I am considering buying a Precision M4400 but I've read about various audio problems, even with the audio outputs. Is this a widespread problem?
Also I've read about lots of crashes and freezes that occur....

    Hi DelfinoM,

I can't speak for others, but my new M4400's sound works perfectly. The built-in speakers are tiny, but it sounds good hooked up to a TV or external speakers.

No driver crashes or glitches in everyday use (professional use my vary). The only problem I noticed was interference when using a DisplayPort to HDMI converter, but this may be the TV or adapter, as I'm not sure if the DisplayPort even outputs audio. It's easy to fix, though, if your TV/display accepts audio via 3.5mm connection.

    Good luck!

    Hey Delfino

You'll find all sorts of problems on this forum but that goes for pretty much every laptop. The people posting here are usually doing so becasue they're experiencing an issue but there's probably loads more who never have any problem.
That said, the crashes have been very isolated, only a couple of people actually had that and i think they're all solved....haven't read anything about it for months.
The audio issue....get all the latest drivers and BIOS etc. and you should be fine, the speakers are crap but so are most laptop speakers.

    Hello DelfinoM,

from my experience with the M4400 so far (I have it for 4 months) I had some problems with the sound indeed. The integrated speakers are crap, to be fair. But once you plug external speakers it's another story.
I use an external Creative sound card which support 5,1 channels and experienced multiple crashes with the newest drivers bit the ones which were on the disk (a bit older) work perfectly and cause no problems. My sound card is a Creative SB X-Fi Surround 5.1 USB.
Apart from that the M4400 is a killer! My advice is: Go for it!

    Cheers,
    pantersen

I have a M4400 and do not have any sound issues. Yes the OB speakers are junk, but this is a business notebook so it is to be expected (my old T61 was not any better)
    Other audio problems.....none.
Great notebook, so far one of the best I have had.

The M4400 is an amazing laptop, I've had no regrets with it, if you're into music a lot, you could take LP's suggestion for me to get a PC-Card sound card for an extra $100. This laptop is powerful, holds long charges and has every other base covered.
