I just got my Seagate Momentus 7200.3 320GB hard drive today. I don't have any external cases I could use to do a backup image and I wanted to do a clean install anyway since I haven't done one to this system since I bought it.

I've tried using Dell's driver disc that came with the system but it's out of date. The Web site has been a mess as well. Selecting through the service tag Dell is offering drivers for hardware that was never part of this machine and hardware that is apart of it isn't listed unless I look at all D630 drivers.

    Here's what I've downloaded:
    Quickset Application
    Sigmatel Audio driver
    Touchpad driver
    Smartcard driver
    Chipset
    Ethernet driver
    Wireless driver
    nVidia driver

Are there any other drivers through Dell that I might need?

I grabbed the Notebook System Software, the generic Intel SATA drivers and the Seagate firmware.

I've installed all of that other than ther Intel SATA drivers and I have no "!" in Hardware Manager.

I've incidentally left out the modem drivers because I'll never use a 56kbps modem again in my life. I'd rather surf the internet on my iPhone 3G.

Right now I'm doing all the Windows Updates, with SP3 being first.

Anything else that I'm missing? I will try to get around to installing those SATA drivers sometime except I don't think I'm missing any performance without them installed.

I am happy I installed the firmware for the Seagate Momentus 7200.3 320GB with G-Force protection because it completely took care of the "clicking" noise I experienced from the get go.

That was the only ones that I could remember off the top of my head.

I am sure that after you are done, you will find out if you missed any!! ;)

Alright well thank you very much Jakrpo.

I think all Windows Updates and "offical" drivers, other than the SATA driver, have been downloaded and installed. The only reason I haven't installed those SATA drivers is it isn't an auto install like all the other drivers. I think I'm going to have to manual do them.

So I'm going to these those until tomorrow when I start to install other applications and games.

I'm going to redo my voltize mods and game installations until then. Games will probably be:

    Diablo 2
    Starcraft
    Warcraft 2
    Morrowind
    Dawn of War
    Company of Heroes
    Tribes Vengance
    SWAT 4

Should I try to "hack" the newest WQHL drivers for the NVS 135M/8400G M that I can find?

I also went from A09 to A15 BIOS and it make a huge difference between 173 and 177 nVidia drivers and the fan noise.

    Thanks

Run the fastest video drivers that are still stable for the games. Try 179.28 from laptopvideo2go.com
