Hello all. This is my first post here. I have read through the postings but did not see anything related to my two issues.

I just bought a used Latitude E6400. It has the T9550 processor, 4GB memory and the nVidia Quadro video.

My first desire was to upgrade it from Vista to Win7. I created a USB boot stick using the WIN7 USB tool and an ISO of Win7. I tried to boot off the USB but the computer freezes after the BIOS screen. I also changed from IRRT to ACHI regarding the hard drive. I made the USB stick my first boot choice and tried using the F12 (one time boot device). Same results. I can read the USB stick if I start Windows first and open Windows Explorer.
So why does my machine not boot when the USB is plugged in?

Second question: My laptop came with a generic charger. It is a 65W charger, 18.5V output at 3.5A made by HP (HP model N193). I "think" it is charging but everytime I bootup I get a warning message about an unidentified changer. Should I get an "OEM" Dell charger.

Last question: When I'm looking at the Dell driver downloads, I see a reference to E6400, E6400-ATG and soemthimes "Rousch". What is the difference, and do I need to which I have to download drivers?

    Thanks.

I would definitely get the proper OEM charger, the laptop will not run properly without it.

Have u tried flashing the latest BIOS ?

Upgraded to latest BIOS (A32) and all problems went away. Thanks. New charger on order.

One more thing, do I need or want the Dell Control Point software?
It does not show as availableon the Dell Driver site when I select "Win7" as my OS. But under "All" there are like ten versions available.

I use Windows 7 to control wireless networks you should have no problem either.

Just install the Wireless driver for the PCI card you have,

You may need to install Chipset, and Audio drivers as well to get the full functionality of the laptop working.

They are mostly interchangeable, Rousch is the internal codename for the E6400, and the E6400 ATG is a semi-rugged model of the E6400 that is mostly identical to the E6400.

Usually the drivers will support multiple systems, sometimes spanning across multiple generations, so as long as your system is included in the list, it'll work fine.

Thanks for all the helpful answers. Everything is working nicely with Win7 now except the camera. There are no drivers for it (in Win7). I spent alot of time looking and even tried the drivers for the E6410 (per forum recommendation) but those didn't work either (said some other program was missing). I don't really need a camera anyways.

I am now waiting for my OEM Dell charger to arrive. It turns out that my battery is not currently charging at all. I can run the loptop on the "HP" charger, but it will not charge the battery. I'm down to 7%.
I didn't realize how fussy these laptops are about the chargers.

Webcam should work with the default generic driver, unless it's disabled in the BIOS.

It shows up in Device Manager as working but there is no software/program installed. How do I actually see it work? Do I need to find someone using a video conferencing program and connect to them to know if it works?

I would have thought there would be a screen/window that would show me what the camera is seeing?

How do I even know when the camera is on (I don't see a "red light" near the camera like my video camera has)?

You need a program like Skype for the webcam to get activated (there's a blue LED indicator next to the camera).

Okay my new (Chinese made) OEM Dell charger came in today, and I am now charging! :D . (I was worrying after reading alot of posts about laptops with MB and charger board problems). So problem was just a "non-Dell brand charger not communicating with computer.
Surprizingly, my battery went from a 5% charge to 100% in like fifteen minutes or less. I would-a thought it would take longer.
