Hey everybody I am new here, so forgive me if i am posting this in the wrong section. I am looking at picking myself up a Latitude D620 but the one i was looking at has a core duo processor.

I was wondering if its possible to just replace that processor with a newer core 2 duo since its far superior. I tried to find info if the motherboards on the two versions of that laptop differ but came up empty.

Any help would be greatly appreciated
    Thanks!

The D20 has the i945GM chipset....so it supports the older Socket M Meroms....
You could max it out with a T7600....(go for the T7200)..!!
May need a BIOS update..!! +apply AS-5....and clean the heat-sink..!!
Check out this guide for the list of CPUs....Look for Socket M Core 2 Duos..!!
And dont throw away your old CPU because if you would need to claim a warranty on the laptop in the long run....you could install the old CPU and then pass it over..!!

EXCELLENT! thank you so much for your help. I was hoping i would be able to just swap the processor out, although the seem to be a tad bit pricer than i thought they would be but that is ok.

The Core 2 Duo processors were only about 15% faster clock for clock than the previous Core Duo processors, and that was when they were pushed at 100% load. For normal everyday tasks, both types of processor will downclock, and there will be no noticeable difference between thw two.

It may be a better idea to invest in more RAM and/or a faster hard disk. Those items cost much less than a new processor, and have a bigger effect on system speed.

Yea my plan for it was already to shove more ram in it, probably 2 gigs unless for some reason these laptops are able to see some more

did not think about a faster harddrive, good idea i will have to look into those

woo hoo well i picked it up, and couldnt be happier!

As said earlier i am actually surprised at the processor being a centrino duo and not that bad at all.

Now the machine is running vista at the moment with a gig of ram, i was wondering if anyone knew how much ram i could put in this thing. I would be fine with 2 gigs, but ya know if i can jam more in why not as the prices for memory today

    - Centrino is just Intel's platform branding for combination of Intel CPU + Intel chipset + Intel WLAN card
    - If you're running 32-bit, go for 2GB or 3GB. DDR2 SODIMMs are really cheap.

Yes the OS is 32 bit, i have 64 bit versions lying around but for a laptop i dont really need to push that much since its just my laptop, the desktop is for the big stuff haha

Does anyone have any recommendations on decent ram, again im just looking for quality not like something i can stress with games and what not
