Change to ATA?

    The latency issues with the e6400 are driving me crazy.

    Can I change to ATA from ACHI without reinstalling the software?

    Give it a try. The Dell factory installation of Windows should have the drivers for all modes pre-installed. If you get a BSOD then see this thread for guidance. It relates to IRRT / AHCI but the same principles apply for ATA.

    ATA should be even slower.

    From the DPC Latency thread, someone commented that their latency dropped from 9ms to less than 0.5ms after switching to ATA.

    I don't have the dell install so I'll have to either follow the thread or do a clean install.

    Can't seem to find the post... But I think switching to ATA does have some effect on battery life?

    ATA transfer rate is slower than SATA, please provide your source because I couldn't find it. I've been following that thread.
