    Hi,
I'm looking for a icc profile and RGB setting for Precision m6400 Edge 2 Edge sec5443 screen.
But the only thing I found is for LGD018E screen, not for sec5443 screen.
Dose somebody know how to calibrate the Precision m6400 sec5443 screen? Thanks:)
PS: I don't have a Hardware Calibration Devices.

    Hi Gannacus,

The best to calibrate a screen is to use a calibration device (a colorimeter (like the Spyder) or a spectrophotometer (like the Colormunki photo))... using an ICC profil that is made for another screen (even if it is the same reference) doesn't guarantee the colors would be ok. There are often differences between two panels even if they have the same references. And the colors will vary with the luminosity or during time : so to allow you to always have the accurate colors, it's strongly recommended to calibrate your screen periodically (at least once a month)
A colorimeter like the spyder express doesn't cost so much nowadays (100$; but it worths that investment)

In addition, don't mix the things. The calibration you do with a spyder or another colorimectric probe is normally a software calibration (it's modifying the ICC profil in the OS color management system). Hardware calibration refers to the ability that some high end monitor (like EIzo's ColorEdge) have, to directly write the color informations from a calibration into the graphic card memory (in the LUT table I think).
    So you have to distinguish
    - using an icc profile from another panel
    - software calibration
    - hardware calibration

    hi again Gannicus,

after doing some searches on the forums I found this
    :
Alienware M17x R2 Proper ICC Color Profile

If I read correctly that thread, the alienware m17x r2 seems to have the same panel as your laptop (the id is sec5443 too...) .... and someone in that forum posted an icc profile for it...

    perhaps you should try it...

    Hi Nico6875,

Thanks a lot for your explication and help, I didn't know these differences below before:
    - using an icc profile from another panel
    - software calibration
    - hardware calibration
    Your explication is very helpful.

I installed the icc file you mentioned, and installed the i1Match Calibration Loader software to activate the icc file, now my m6400 screen has pretty good color result, the colors look similar to my dell 3008wfp monitor’s colors

    Thanks again:)

    You're welcome,

Color management tends to be a science on its own ;)

But I don't undersant why you use a dedicated software ? Windows can manage ICC profile. Or does your monitor allow hardware calibration ?

Because I installed icc file, and made it defaut in windows 7 color manager, but there was no color change, it looks like Windows 7 can associat the icc file with monitor, but dosen't activate it. I found a thread below:
    http://forum.notebookreview.com/alienware-m17x/481689-guide-m17x-r2-rgb-led-display-calibration-how.html

my monitors don't have hardware calibration ability as EIzo's ColorEdge

    OK, I didn't know this...
In fact I have an icc loader installed with my colorimeter software, but I didn't know windows couldn't activate the profile without it.
    Thanks for the information
