I sourced a "new" motherboard for my dead Latitude C640 from e-bay and now have problem bootning.

    The story so far....
The computer worked fine as i left it with the charger in overnight and the next morning it was dead. After surfing the net it was diagnosted that the MB-power part that was dead. I left the computer lying around for a year and finally found a MB for a resonable price.

The new MB went in just fine and when pushing the power button the 3LEDs below and the on and HD LEDs light up and the screen flickers slightly then it shuts down.

If I press and hold F12 the the fan starts and I can get the CD to run and start to look for a CD (Spinning)

    It won't boot with a knoppix/Linux CD
The HD is new formatted NTFS but it behave the same with or whitout it

I have tried the old grapics card and processor with no difference.

    Any ideas?
Do you have to do anything special after replacement of the MB?

    /Henrik

At this stage, is the screen turning on? Can you get into the BIOS?

No the screen never lights up not even with the F12 startup method, I might get into the Bios but if so I can't see it :-(

Did you make sure you bought a working board? Sometimes these guys selling AS-IS parts make it sound like you're buying something working. If there's any sort of guarantee attached to the board, you should complain.

Hi, I got a 3rd computer from a friend ie the lower part everything less keyboard, HDD, Diskdrive and screen.

I installed my screen and the HDD. It boots up fine but does not see the HDD
Runs DOS fine from floppy, I updated the BIOS from V08 to V09 without problem but it still does not see the HDD.
I have formatted the HDD to NTFS with my other computer and tried another HDD but it still does not show up in the Startup/BIOS menu

    Any ideas?

Again, was this board confirmed to be working before you got it? Does the HDD spin up despite that it's not recognized? Maybe you forgot something simple like the HDD interposer? Is the drive bigger than 147GB?

    Hi

    Problem found,
I had removed the adapter strip (a year ago) at the end of the HDD when I accesed it with my other computer.

So it was a mechanical fault!

Now it seams to work :)
