Hi everyone. I have an issue with my C610 that I'm hoping someone may be able to help me with.

The mouse cursor seems to have a mind of it's own. When I start the laptop, the cursor starts to slowly move towards the upper right corner of the screen. Any attempts to move it anywhere else on the screen results in it moving back to the upper right. Over the next few minutes the cursor is fixed in the corner and moving the cursor makes it move very quickly to the right upper corner.

Any ideas as to what's going on and how I may fix it?

    Thanks.

try disabling the touchpad and see if the cursor moves...
try external mouse and see if cursor moves...

if you have issue with touchpad... time to call Dell?

Install the Synaptics mouse driver and under the device settings disable the pointing stick, that will overcome the hardware problem the C610 is famous for.

You will then only have the wandering mouse problem at the xp login screen before the driver loads.

Same issue with my C610, the problem lies with the connector cable getting pinched under the keyboard over time and thus causing false signals. Best way to fix this is to disable the pointing stick like hopester mentioned or take it apart, get a new cable and support it somehow and make sure it doesn't get messed up again :/

I downloaded the Synaptics program not long ago... before I posted the original thread. It has seemed to fix the problem for the most part, but it still will wander occasionally, but not nearly to the extent that it had before.

    Thanks for the feedback.
