dell seems to be very expensive now compared with what they were

so i'm thinking of buying something from the outlet, and upgrading it

are parts available for the e6500?

    i want:
    web cam
    blue tooth
    wireless n
    backlit keyboard

does anyone know where i can get these and how much they would (trying to see if its finacially viable)

    cheers

backlit keyboard is easy. if you want it i can give you one if you live in the UK and are willing to pay postage cost

webcam i cant remember how much it costs to order from dell spare parts, but you'll need a new LCD bezel as well.

not sure about the bluetooth and wireless. these two can probably be ordered from a third party, which would be cheaper than getting it from dell spares

    Thanks!

Could I also add a docking station to that list, as dell want over 150 for one!

well for a docking station and webcam ur only source is dell AFAIK.

the others u can get from third parties (bluetooth wifi, keyboard)

i dont know about outlet units, but for brand new units, you can negotiate significant discounts with dell on the phone, and they heavily discount accessories as well.

before going for the outlet i would call dell and investigate any discounts you can get with a new unit. to give you an idea of how much discount u can get, i got $722 off mine, with free displayport adaptors, and 2 free laser premium mice (with 6 buttons).

so i paid roughly USD1700 for mine specs in signature, and that was a year ago when it just came out complete with a 3 year prosupport warranty

You can read the service manual to see how easy / difficult it is to fit the parts.

I think the webcam will need a different display bezel. Also, finding the parts is not so easy in UK.

In addition to Dell Outlet, it is worth checking the etailers who bulk buy from Dell Outlet. Look through the stock at ITCsales and check out ebay.

i have all the parts you need in my latitude but my screen lid is cracked at the corner other than that i use it over the machine in my sig because its such a better keyboard and nicer screen , (i hate glossy screens! )

    my latitudes specs are
    2.8 cpu
    nvs160m gpu
    4GB ram
160GB 7200 rpm drive with freefall sensor
    builtin webcam and microphone
1440x900 led backlit screen (very nice to use all day)
bluetooth and intel 5300 wifi card

make me an offer i cant refuse :p

    Thanks Gordy boy
But I went for one on the site suggested by John

I got a great deal, more than i wanted to spend, but its brand new, never used and also has 3 year warrenty which is what i was after
    http://www.itcsales.co.uk/acatalog/DELL_E6500_Series.html

I didn't come with the web cam or backlit keyboard, so i'll have to sort that bit out, but cant fault that advice john, excellent site!
And also a big thanks to AfhstinGray for being so generous...its hard to find people like you in this day and age!

    Thanks all!
