I'm running Windows 7 64 bit on my E6400 and it's worlds better than Vista Basic or Premium. Although it's not available to the public anymore you can probably find one through any of the torrent sites.

Aw shucks, I wish I had know this :(
I ordered a M6400 with 64 bit, and had to omit the webcam because of compatibility issues.

someone over in OSes said that its not possible to use an OEM ultimate 32 key on a retail version of vista 64bit, but at another forum someone posted this:

The same thing happened to me, but it's far from impossible to get Vista x64.

    1. School licenses are not retail, so if you get a 32-bit install DVD Microsoft will NOT send you a 64-bit install DVD.
    2. However, the CD-Key you got with your 32-bit Vista will definitely work for the 64-bit version.
    3. All this means is that you have to somehow get a 64-bit install disc and install it using the CD-Key you already have. That's it. All you need is a disc.

So get the disk. Borrow it from someone. Download from MSDN. Torrents. Newsgroups. Burn onto a DVD. There are a lot of options.

umm, i tried to explain to dell what i was talking about and the guy had no idea. i figured i'd get it done before the computer arrived, but alas, they had noo idea what i was talking about.

hopefully i can call after i get it and theyll understand, or ill try to find the disc somewhere else. for some reason i am kind of uncomfortable downloading and burning the disc online.

Dell actually claims the M6400 webcam is not compatible with x64?
    Ludicrous...

It claimed it was incompatible with XP 64 bit
It was compatible with Vista 64 bit SP1.
But I wanted both Vista and XP, so I had to forgo the webcam.

I think there was a similar problem with bluetooth.
