I just broke the 4 pin processor fan connector on the motherboard of my Dell Precision M4700 laptop. Now I can just get a new piece soldered but the problem is I don't know where to buy it or what to even search for.

Can someone please let me know what these little connectors are called? Please...

This is what the broken piece looks like

Probably best to just look on eBay for whole fans for the M4700, looks like they are readily available for under $10.

[Edit] Just realized that you are talking about the motherboard side of the connector and and not the fan side, so I don't really have anything helpful to offer. You can get a used motherboard for $60ish...

Digikey or Mouser would be good sources - the trick will be finding the right part number to order.

Thanks guys, for the support. If i replace the motherboard I'll lose my OEM Windows license as well right? That would be another $150-200 :(

Try contacting microsoft regarding that. If you explain to them that mobo replacement is required outside of warranty, but that it is the same model mobo (perhaps not same revision though). I'm betting they would be accommodating to that circumstance.

That shouldn't be an issue. When you boot on the new motherboard, if Windows complains about activation, call the phone number that it presents and if the system doesn't automatically activate you, it will send you to a representative. Explain to the person what you did and it should be fine.
(I've been through similar situations a few times and never had a problem.)

Looks like new motherboard it is then. For $80 on eBay. Thanks everyone for your valuable input.
