    Latitude forum,

    I've had a D400 for about 8 years and all I've
replaced is the hard drive and the power cord.
This model came with a read only external cd drive.

I constructed a bootable usb drive using WinToFlash
and changed my bios to have the usb as the first
    choice to boot.

The problem is it never boots from the usb drive.
I disabled all boot sources except the usb in the
bios but it just hangs with a black screen.

I know the mother board has to be able to boot from
a usb but I don't know if this one can.

    Any suggestions?

Are you sure your flashdrive was setup properly? Does it boot off a USB optical drive?
