    I reformatted my vostro 1400. I found the drivers on the dell site and downloaded it, ran the .exe file and it gets to the point where it says activate bluetooth using fn+f2 or radio on/off switch.

    fn f2 doesn't work
    i'm assuming radio switch is the wireless signal switch which i tried and doesn't affect anything

    so how do I reinstall bluetooth?

    It is refering to the switch on the side...how do you have it configured for the switch? I have it only to be used for bluetooth and not wireless. Those settings are in the bios.

    It's configured as whatever is default.
    When I flip the switch on, I see two icons, one is wi-fi the other is the bluetooth symbol.
    Where do I find the bios to check the configuration?

    I restarted and confirmed that the wireless switch is set to control all wireless devices including bluetooth. I just thought of something though...
    My motherboard was replaced with an identical model as well as the video card as a result of that nvidia overheating video card problem. Is the bluetooth hardware attached to that motherboard? Maybe the technician took it out.
    If that is not the case, then I am still stuck at my previous problem where it prompts for me to turn on the bluetooth device, I push the switch and nothing happens.

    The BIOS setting determines if the physical switch controls the BT device. The switch enables the BT device, which should then appear in Device Manager. Once Device Manager is aware of the device, you can install its driver/application. Then there should be BT presence in the Control Panel and perhaps the system tray area. All that remains is to use the BT control panel to add a BT peripheral for communicating with it.

    I turned the switch on and checked device manager. There is no bluetooth recognized.

    Assuming BT is an installable module, I'd look to see if it is physically installed and connected. Easy to do on the E6400.
