Blink battery light - orange

I got my D630 in yesterday. It was going perfect for awhile, then out of no where the battery light on the bezel started blinking orange.

Is there a reason for this? I took the battery out and put it back in and it went away. I haven't seen it since, but still not sure what the battery light means.

 

That means the battery is low.

 

That's strange, as it was plugged in for about 3-4 hours when it did it...and once the battery was taken out and put back in it went away.

 

May be a glitch, see if you can reproduce it and under what conditions it happens.

 

If you press and hold the battery light for 5 seconds it does it...Just tried that to see what it did (as I had been testing my older laptop last night).

It goes green, then I believe 4 (it's hard to tell) blinks of orange, then green, then 4 blinks of orange.

 

When it's doing its blinking, if you pull the power cable, the laptop turns off entirely.

I removed and reinserted the battery, now it works fine. I don't understand what is wrong with it, I can't hold the button down on it to "test" it's performance without it going nuts?

 

Could you confirm which light it is that's blinking. You originally said "battery light on the bezel started blinking orange", which would indicate a low battery. Do you mean the one on the bottom of the battery?

 

When you press the button on the battery, like to test to see the life remaining (The hold down pressing, that shows lights if your battery is getting old), it shows no bars, but the little light on the bezel, the battery light (which normally shows low/charging/etc) starts blinking green-orange-orange-orange-orange-repeat.

 

Well something is wrong with the battery. We tried one of the 9 cell batteries and it worked fine. Guess I'll be calling Dell to replace this crap one.

 

they are pretty cool with replacing defective batteries so it shouldnt be a problem.

I had a 9-cell that lost most of it's charge in only a few months. I looked online and found that it's actually not an uncommon problem. I used Dell's online chat (very good btw), and they sent me a new battery. All I had to do is send back the defective one within the time period (i wanna say 7-10 days, I could be wrong though) and it was all set.
