my latitude d630 worked fine for the last few months, and i have not updated anything, but today when i turned it on, ther are black horizontal lines on the display.

as i scroll, they jump around, disappear and reappear in different places.

is this a sign of a display/video card failure?

I have an Nvidia quadro NVS 135m in the laptop.

I have updated the driver but this didnt work. Attached are images of the lines. its funny that ctrl + print screen can capture the lines on the screen. it makes me think its software and not hardware.

    any help would be appriciated.

    Thanks

Since the issue is visible in a print screen, yes, the issue is the GPU. I would have suggested a driver update but looks like you've done this.

    I'd say failing GPU.

Clean out any intakes/fans with compressed air blasts and try using your laptop in an elevated position where air can easily circulate and cool the laptop. Maybe even a cooling stand if necessary.

    1. Borrow an external monitor and see whether you get the lines on that.

    2. Boot off a Linux Live CD and see if you get any lines on the screen. This will test the driver theory.
