Best touchpad driver for E6400 (and why are Latitude touchpads so damn auwful?)

Is there a best (or at least a better) touchpad driver for the E6400? I remember drivers making a difference in the case of my D420.

This being said: is there any theory as to why Dell keeps making Latitude touchpads such a frustrating experience? They were abysmally poor on the D420 and are mediocre even on the E6420 (which I owned for a few weeks before selling).

Would pad-manufacturer drivers be any better? Or third-party drivers? (I remember using an Acer driver for the D420...)

I know this has been discussed already, but found no updated answers.

Uhh I found using the Dell one vs the Windows one made a difference, but it still a piece of crap touchpad, you are right. And this was for my E6400, E6410, D620, D630. All my ThinkPad ones EXCEPT for my X220 Tablet with a clickpad have been Synaptics and far superior. Dell's main gripe has been the crappy Alps touchpad. But I've used some decent Alps on the Studio and Inspirons.

Well when I first got my E6400 I had some huge issues with the touchpad. What I did after a lot of researching was install the E5410 touchpad driver "not even sure if it is truly different but felt like it did." Then disabled some of the features on it so helped with the jumpy attitude of it.

The thing that really made it feel better.... when I changed to a SSD. Can not explain why but when I pulled out the normal drive the touchpad was totally normal.
