I can't afford an M6400, so I'm going back to my original choice of an E6500. However the option for a backlit keyboard no longer appears on the UK site. (It is still there on the US site.)

Has anyone recently ordered one in the UK and got a backlit keyboard?

Did you try phoning? The sales people have options that we can't see.

The backlit keyboard option has also disappeared from the E6400 UK configuration. I wonder whether it was selling better than expected so Dell tried to reduce demand by taking that option off-line. While on the phone you can check if you get the standard D series 90W PSU (with cord wrapping) or the new slimmer E series 90W PSU.

And you should be able to get a better price by phoning (although all I got was half price delivery).

The sales reps can order with the backlit keyboard, I've ordered one, but still not got it yet (10 days in pre-production, 18 days in-production and counting, GRRR!!)

Looks like they started to make it and then discovered they were short of a screw, or it was bent and they didn't have a spare one.

Must have been something like that, presumably they don't aim to tie up a box of bits in the production area for longer than necessary. Anyway the courier's website is now showing delivery on Monday, which is one day earlier than I was originally quoted, but I was hoping that would be pessimistic, turns out it to be realistic.
