But I don't think this is a common problem on the E6400. I have lower specs and my E6400 works very smoothly.

Well-I hear what both of you are saying, but I cant for the life of me figure out what is making it so slow.
I dropped "Aero" and have brought my start-up programs down to the absolute minimum and yet still not much of a difference.
I have noticed that IE is taking up alot of ram when more than two windows are open. Should I use Firefox instead?

Also, why have I noticed such a slowdown in internet access? What would cause that degradation?

Im just pissed that I have to tweak the system to get it to run normally.

Try Firefox. It can co-exist with IE. However, I don't think that is the cause of your problems.

I wonder if it slowdown is caused by the security parts of DellControlPoint. Something, somewhere, is trying to check each time you want to do something. And isn't Itunes a can of worms? Did the computer perform OK before it was installed? Apple would much prefer you to send back the Windows compouter and buy one of theirs.

John-I dont even think I have ControlPoint installed. My tech guy left it out when he installed the OS.

Do you think i'll see any benefit from turning the C Drive Indexing off?
