I reimaged my system and it's up and running. It wasn't as bad as I thought.

I thought I would install Dell Client System Update to take a look. I was surprised that it seems to be making a couple of bad recommendations.

The first is a driver for the ATI FirePro 8900, when my M4600 has a FirePro 5950.

The second is an A07 driver for the multi-touch touch pad when my computer already has A10.

Anyone else having these issues? Having had a Lenovo previously (before the HP), I would have thought DCSU would be a useful application, but this does not inspire confidence.

I tried it and it recommended 2 bad updates. I only found it because I went ahead and let it update, one succeeded and one failed. But when I checked again, the same TWO were offered. I downloaded them manually and saw they were not correct.

I am not sure if I will use it again or not. It may be worth keeping it to see what it recommends..

My experience also is similar to you.
I used it on latitude 6520.
Same result finds two updates both will fail .

I did not install them after I re installed windows.
