...did you get one that actually fit your notebook?

For two weeks, Dell has known that they shipped me the incorrect part and have been unable to send me one that actually fits the E6400.

So I am curious...does anyone else posses a module that actually fits your notebook?

    Have you seen this?

    http://forum.notebookreview.com/showpost.php?p=4041170&postcount=596

When I first read your post about this I was on my second order (it was incoming) so I expected a second mistake. Instead of letting it go I contacted my sales rep. that fixed the situation by filing a technical escalade.

Now as you can see I got the good one that fits!

Strangely enough, the mistaken part fitted almost perfectly the D630 bay, but the filler came out easily as it was not retained inside. The size was perfect tough. My guess is that this was the 6500 part?

Anyway the part # is there. Good luck!

6500 and 6400 use the same optical bay.

Sigh...after "working" with Dell for a month to get the darn part...I've just about given up.

They claim the part is no longer available, so I am accusing them of false advertising. No doubt this weight saver was part of the reason I purchased the notebook.

Now Dell is offering me a coupon for the trouble, but cannot resolve the issue.

I cannot say that I am very happy right now. Good news is that the E6400 is as solid as a rock and nothing has gone wrong with it.

Bad news is that Dell service is nothing compared to what it used to be.

    Update
Oh, this is nice. I just checked Dell's website, and they do not offer the E/Travel Lite module anymore on their notebooks. Now I'll never get the part...

That's really disappointing to hear Greg :( They should have thrown it in for free originally.

It only saves 140 grams / 5oz at most. Personally, I wouldn't go out of the door without an optical drive. One never knows when the need to read or burn an optical disc will arise.

If not listed means not available then Dell have also discontinued the illuminated keyboard for UK customers. Glad I bought mine when I did.:)

Well, I did live with the D430 for some time. I didn't need the drive then :p.

Perhaps they are having supply issues. I know that in the US there are at least two different models of the keyboard (same manufacturer though).

They recently discontinued the E/Travel Lite Module, which I think was caused by Dell (probably) canceling the contract with the plastics manufacturer most likely because they shipped a bunch of wrong parts (like my oversized module).

If anything, Dell is still having hiccups with the new line. That doesn't surprise me, as I'd expect that to always happen.

Considering that I had to file a BBB complaint to even get this fixed, I'm pretty sure it is a low priority for Dell.

Just file a complaint, and they'll handle it right after that. If you didn't buy the system with the module, then that website is probably your best shot. The E's haven't been out long enough for a lot of parts to start showing up on eBay and other sites.
