Ever since I've been reading this whole Nvidia fiasco about the defective chips, I'm constantly eyeing my Vostro 1500 to make sure it doesn't melt on me... Dell, on the other hand, has not posted any notice of this particular model prone to the overheating issues that the other Nvidia Dell laptops have...

Dell has known those chips were defective since November 2007... It's not really in their best interest to tell you things are wrong with your laptop. People tend to buy less of a product the more it is in the news with a bad light.

I've done many gaming sessions on mine and it hasn't burnt up. One thing the vostro 1500 has going for it is a heat sync for the card - I believe that the other models are lacking this.

Plus the 1500 has an actual separate card, unlike the 1400 which has an nvidia chip on the mobo.
My 8400m gs in my 1500 has not shown problems yet, luckily.

Also your 8600mGT is the ddr2 version which isn't effected in any other dell system (e.g vostro 1700, inspiron 1720). Personally unless your performance is being effected and/or your temps are high I wouldn't worry. We have had a vostro 1500 with the 8600mGT here at my office since it was released and its had zero issues, as well as an engineer here owns one and has the same sentiment towards the laptop. Also may be off topic but my 8600mGT is doing just fine, but then again its also in the HUGE 1700 chassis.

Geez with all these complaints about the Nvidia cards you would think people would stop buying new laptops with them in it, but apparently all the new Dell laptops still have those cards inside...
