I have yet another question about how trackpads work - hopefully this will be the last one. Unfortunately, I don't have too much experience with electrical engineering, so my knowledge is limited in this situation.

Basically, I'm trying to swap the Latitude E6400's trackpad for the Vostro 1500's. I already have both boards, but the problem lies with the way the keyboards connect. It will be helpful to see the photo below to see what I'm talking about...

The connectors (blue) for the trackpad buttons are the same, so no problem there.
The connectors (purple) for the motherboard are the same, so no problem there.
The yellow box is where a cable was taped down that would plug into the Vostro's keyboard. However, it did not cover all of the pins, hence the box is smaller than the red one.
The red boxes are the corresponding keyboard connector areas. At the top, it outlines the connector of the actual keyboard. The middle box outlines the connector on the original Latitude trackpad. The lower one shows the pins on the Vostro that I presume can be used for something - a keyboard, maybe?

The red connectors all have the same amount of pins - 43. Would it be possible for me to soldier wires from each contact point on the keyboard to the corresponding point on the Vostro's touchpad? Also, are there any other problems I could run into with compatibility?

this is my first major one. i'm really obsessive about getting stuff perfect, so once I get some idea in my head, I can't let it go until (a) I've completed it and it's perfect, or (b) I can prove to myself that it absolutely cannot be done ever in any way.
