    Hi.

    I have a Dell Latitude E5530 running windows 8.

    Today I replace my Hard Drive with a Samsung 256GB SSD EVO 850.

    After installation, I booted up and receive message “No Bootable Device”.

    I went in the Bios and clicked "Load Defaults" on Boot sequence.

    “No Bootable Device” msg has disappeared.

    Now I get an alert message every time i boot up:

    “Press ctrl-s to configure device mac address”.

    I can still run my computer, but this message keeps appearing on boot-up.

    On the net, I read some old messages from 2009, stating it's either an alert the back cover of your laptop was open, or you must turn off all SATA switches in Bios.

    I understand back cover was open, but I'm not sure about how to reset SATA switches(if this is the fix).
    Or is this message related to a completely different issue.

    Just want to know how can I turn off this annoying message?

    Thanks.
    Tom.

    Did you turn on PXE boot on the NIC in the bios?

    @alexhawker.
    In Bios, > Integrated NIC > Enabled Wpxe is already defaulted to on.

    Msg still appears.

    @alexhawker.

    Ok, that removed the display message permanently.Thanks for your help.

    What (if any) are the implication to my laptop leaving it disabled?

    Tom.

    Leave it disabled - you don't need it.

    PXE Boot is used in corporate environments for imaging computers with a standard OS and software image. I use it at work with a FOG server - basically enabling it means the computer will first boot in the PXE on the network interface card - the fog server assigns it an IP via DHCP, and you are able to write large amounts of data via the NIC directly to the hard drive. This is much faster than installing windows from a CD.

    Once the machine is imaged, PXE boot can be set to disabled, as it is no longer needed (unless the HDD dies later on and you need to image the machine again).
