I meant that I was not using any Direct-X 3D games when I took the measurement. The FX3700 should have all sorts of internal features turned off automatically when you are not using 3D, I did not explicitly turn anything off. I had my power profile set to "Balanced" which I think is the default, I'm not sure what combination of AC and battery power that uses.

Has anyone tried using the slim (.77" x 3.1" x 5.6") Kensington 120W universal adapter with the N19 smart tip? This adapter looks tiny...

I did some measurements with my M6400.
Idle, RGB-LED lowest brightness it uses 48W.
CPU Full-Load, RGB-LED full brightness it uses 150W
CPU + GPU full load, RGB-LED full brightness is uses 180W

The RGB-LED power consumtion difference between lowest and highest brightness is 10W.

ANd thanks for the info btw.

I have a FX 3700 (all other specs are in my signature)...
I have a power meassure tool that you plug in the socket before the power supply. Of course it meassures the power consumtion + the electric losts of the power adapter. Therefor the 150W I meassured probably means that the M6400 only consumes about 14x W...

At the moment I use the M4400's power supply when I'm on the road and the brick when I do demanding stuff at work.

    Thanks.

That makes sense - the 150W that my fx2700 clad M6400 (with QX9300) demands would probably translate to around 170W after powerloss through the adapter.

I have an M6400 and a port replicator. Would I be OK to use the port replicators power adapter with the laptop (130W) despite the message I get saying its not enough?

And would I then be OK to leave the original power adapter (210W) with the port replicator?

Yes - you'll be fine. I run my M6400 from a 90W adaptor now and then.

FWIW your port replicator should have come with a 210W PSU if it was specified for an M6400

It looks like this is the one I received. Is this the wrong one? I havent tried it yet as the port replicator arrived without the power cord and the power cord was just sent yesterday. It does say it is compatible with the m6400, but seems strange they have two versions?

I thought it was odd that I got the 210W adapter with the laptop and only the 130W with the port replicator.

You should have got one of these
    http://accessories.us.dell.com/sna/...etail.aspx?c=us&l=en&s=dhs&cs=19&sku=430-3312

They are the same price - and exactly the same, bar the PSU.
