Ive complained on these boards many times before, so I wont bore all of you with the 9 month long issue I have had with my Latitudes.
In short, they all start operating well but after a couple of months the fans go haywire, the computer gets too hot and hardware starts to degrade.

Dell has sent me 3 computers and I thought the issue was solved with the 3rd one but low and behold after two months of usage, this one is starting to go down the tubes as well.

I dont know what I am going to do now b/c at this point they wont return my money, only exchange.

    Im never buying another Dell.

    Oh well!

I'm still intrigued by why you have these thermal problems when the vast majority of users do not.

Anyway, if no refund then it's time for another exchange.

Crazy.....The E6400 and E6500 we have in our company have all been fantastic, I have not had to call Dell once for repairs. We have about 50 total now (mix of both, more E6400).

Really sucks when you won't know if the units are defective until a few months.

Aw that sucks. Seems like a great deal of bad luck but it doesn't really make a diff for you ofcourse. Hope they'll sort you out one way or the other.

What kind of environment are you in? Are the fans getting blocked up with something or do they just Fail?

    Thats unfortunate. :(

Maybe you should try out thinkpads. The T400 was my second choice after the Latitude E6400.

Could you elaborate on what kind of work you do on them? It seems like a coincidence beyond reasonable probability that you would get 3 defective machines in a row.

Maybe it has to do with what you're doing with the E6400...

There are actually quite a few people on Dells site complaining about the same thing.

Just to be clear, the problem for me exists predominantly when the unit is docked. Undocked I have very few problems.

As for the work I do; very basic work inlcuding Outlook usage, internet surfing and usage of various CRM based programs (all easy on the CPU).

ANY type of video, whether a small YouTube screen or a movie will put the fan into high gear, run up the temps and keep the internal quite warm long after that particular video ends.

My final thought: this laptop cannot and SHOULD NOT be used docked.
They obviously did not thoroughly test the new Latitudes with the docks or they would have experienced the same problem.
The design of the dock does not allow for proper air flow. The base of the laptop gets very warm and this over time causes the damage.
I would say that much of this is due to the nVidia card however, other people are experiencing similar issue with the intel as well.

Unfortunately for me I use the laptop docked 75%+ of the time.
