I've reinstalled Windows Vista on my E6400.

I can controll the screen brightness with the [FN] + [UP] / [DOWN] keys, but I can't see if it's up 50%, 80%, 100% etc. Before the reinstall I could se this on the display via some sort of Dell-tool. Which driver/tool should I install from Dell to be able to see the percentage again?

Another question: is it also possible to control (in percent) how much the backlit keyboard will light up? It seems that I can only turn it on or off.

There should be a Dell Control Point disc that was included with your system. That is the utility that was used to tweak the keyboard backlighting and display brightness (if the Fn hotkeys weren't used to adjust). The backlit keyboard has a sliding scale to choose the level of brightness, but not exactly a percentage figure....but it's pretty close.

I've allready installed Dell Control Point, but it only includes some sort of "Systemoverview" ("Systemoversigt" in Danish), "Connection Manager" and "Security" - no tool for controlling the brightness of the screen or the backlit keyboard.

How many main tools should be able in Dell Control Point? - it seems that I've only have some of them installed. I've tried to install everything from the Dell support when selecting drivers and software for the E6400.

There's several utilities that are named "Dell Control Point" in your drivers disk. It's hard to tell which one does what, but one of them is going to be the utility that will show the brightness bar when you adjust the screen luminance. I would just start from scratch and install them all.

It's not Quickset, Quickset was replaced with ControlPoint.

I believe you need to install the Power Manager to get those options.

I've tried to unpack all rxxxxxx drivers/applications on my "Dell Drivers and Utilities DVD-ROM", none of them seems to include the Power Manager for DCP.

I only have these modules in my DCP:

    1) System Overview
    2) Connection Manager
    3) Security Manager

    I miss:

    4) Power Manager
    5) Display and Devices

A complete DCP with all modules can be seen here:

Could anyone direct me to a link where I can download these missing modules?
