I have a strange problem with my Latitude d630. When I plug my Ac adapter into an outlet, I see the green light showing it is powered on (the adapter) but when I plug it into my laptop, the green light goes out. After I do this, the adapter will not power back on until I unplug it from the wall and plug it back in. No matter what I do, the Ac adapter will not stay powered once I plug it into the laptop. Is there an internal circuit breaker or something that trips when I plug it into the laptop? If so, what is causing this?

My laptop will not power on at all from the battery or Ac adapter. My battery is showing 1 out of 5 green lights when I press the button on the bottom. I don't know if this is related, but my power button also feels different when I press it. It makes a weird click that it never has before.

    Any ideas?

Just an update. I removed the battery, cleaned the contacts, reinstalled it, and it fired up. However, the Ac adapter is still doing the same thing. Is this an adapter issue or something with the computer?

I can see it as one of two things, the problem lies with the laptop, broken jack, mobo or power button or the problem lies with the adapter itself and the battery doesn't have enough juice left in it to power the laptop on. The best thing to do would be to try another adapter or another fully charged battery. If you have access to either of those, trying that would help narrow down the cause of the problem.

The green light going out on the adapter indicates a short in the charging circuit. Basically your mobo is hosed and you will need to replace it.

So even though I got it to work with what little battery I had left, the mobo is still gone?

Motherboard is dead. You can try it on a dock if you still have doubts but it will probably not work there either. At least the dock has its own power button and you can verify that its not the button itself.
