The battery on my vostro 1400 isn't being charged when the adapter is plugged in. However it is providing it with power since the battery doesnt drain when it's plugged in. Is the problem that the adapter has gotten messed up and the computer doesnt recognize it and won't charge up to protect a possible power incompatibility or that the adapter is still fine and it's actually the battery that is malfunctional.(in control panel, battery meter - it says the battery is operating normally with a green check mark though)

hi,The best way is that you test the adapter with another battery before buying new battery or adapter.

its the adaptor mate i had this very same problem for weeks before i reported it to dell they deiciided to replace the full mobo but never sent out a new ac adaptor to check that

turns out they only needed to change the ac adaptor lol so they wasted all that time in swapping my board when all it needed was a simple ac adaptor

    Try the following

    1) Take out the battery pack and AC power

    2) Hold the power button for 30 seconds to flush residual charges

    3) Try starting up again using AC power only then plug in the battery.

i tried all of that sort of stuff flipfire to no avail....

i even flashed the bios to newest hoping it would clear any sort of bugs in the bios that may have prevented the laptop from charging , ran the dell diagnostics tried running the battery totally flat and unplugging the ac adaptor from the wall and disconnecting the battery for an hour

nothing worked hence why i gave up an called the engineer out , which were a good service if only they had brought out the ac adaptor in the first place instead of changing my mobo

still it was clogged full of dust an stuff so that saved me from taking it apart to clean it :)
