it is expensive, runs hot, consumes lots more power, and dosent perform that much better than the FX770. no point IMO upgrading. the heat and power consumption outweigh the small performance increase.

you're not going to have much luck getting support on XP 64. did you install the Ricoh drivers?

for power consumption i have no problems since my usage almost indoor, even outdoor I have 2 batteries the 6 and 9 cells. but the heat is major issue over here :( already suffering of high temp.
I got the Ricoh driver from Dell support but i guess its not compatible!
Even tried manually to update the driver but windows doesn't recognize it too!

There's no way this is a hardware issue... the M4400 manual states that the reader supports SD, SDIO, SD HC, Mini SD (w/adapter), MMC, MMC+, and Mini MMC (w/adapter). This is most likely a 64bit XP bug/"feature" and/or Dell/Ricoh botching the 64bit driver. May try the 64bit XP Ricoh drivers from other E-Series machines or E-Series derivatives?

I was talking about SDHC, specifically micoSDHC in a SD adaptor, I'm using 32bit not 64.

Have you tried more than one card?

Maybe Wolf is correct that it's a XP64bit problem

I use an 8GB SDHC card with my system and it works fine. Maybe it's an issue with your card and/or MicroSD adapter?

P.S. There was a new Ricoh card reader driver posted on Dell's website last week; have you tried that?
