8600M GT drivers for Dell laptop

I'm trying to update my 8600M GT drivers on my Dell Vostro 1500. I downloaded the following file dated 23/1/2009 from the Dell drivers website after entering my service tag:

R190066.exe

I tried to install but an error came up that no drivers matching the hardware could be found (or something like it)...

Can I download the drivers for this card from the nVidia website or call Dell to get some support on this? Or is there something else I'm missing?

 

Those may be the Vista drivers. I'd recommend using the "Select your model" option on Dell's site and choosing the Vostro 1500. Then make sure you select XP from the drop down menu and download the drivers there.

If that still doesn't work, try downloading drivers from www.laptopvideo2go.com. They have almost every recent nVIDIA driver, and they'll install on laptops with the modded INF file - something ones downloaded from nVIDIA's own website usually don't do.

 

Nvidia is also now offering drivers for notebooks as well. You can get the latest drivers from their website at any time and they will work on your laptop.

You can also use the drivers from laptopvideo2go which are the ones I'm using on my Vostro 1500 Nvidia 8600 video card.

They run way much better than the ones on the Dell site.

 

Are they better then the nVidia ones? What of the two would be the best option?

i downloaded the latest drivers from the nVidia. They installed and have been working without a problem. I'm also fairly convinced that my COD:WaW frame rate has improved markedly since updating the drivers (which were almost 1 year old by my estimate).

 

Of course newer drivers offer better performance than old ones.
