With the Vostro 1510 you can only change the GPU by changing the motherboard.

The graphic card on most notebooks are soldered onto the motherboard. Notebooks are not as upgradeable as desktops, unfortunately.

    1. If you were using whole words, a lot of people would read a lot easier your messages. This is no SMS, no letter limitation and such, so please use whole words.

    2. Concerning GPUs (Graphic Processor Unit), each one of them has a name and these names mean something. The fact that the manufacturers are using numbers to name them doesnt change this simple truth. So yes these numbers are important!!
8400 vs 8800 for example doesnt mean that 8800 is just "400" faster than 8400! The difference equivalent is the one of a small Fiat vs Ferrari.

    3. There are lists about the performance of each GPU. Here is a list
    http://www.notebookcheck.net/Mobile-Graphics-Cards-Benchmark-List.844.0.html
If you got lost by all the numbers just look at the first column ranking them. As you can see 8800 is 13th, 8600 65th and 8400 104th. And additionally the letters next to the numbers are important! There is more information that can be found in these forums than you can possibly imagine about all these stuff. Search button is your best friend.

    4. Not counting very few and rare exceptions, you CANNOT change the GPU of a laptop. Period. Here is a very nice thread about it.

    and a more general one
    http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=125803
Again if you just look around there is tons of info

    Hope this helps

As I said earlier, you can change the motherboard. Didn't see anything on eBay, but you may be able to get one from Dell for a small fortune. Have fun finding one. It'll also void your warranty :)

All flavors of 8400M are dedicated graphics solutions.

It's the price you pay for a thinner laptop. Older series like the V1500/i1520 have "descrete" graphics on separate boards. There's no room in the thinner chasis's for a separate descrete card so the GPU is soldered to the motherboard.
