Just looking to see if any 7710 owners using Win 7 are able to use Aero themes. I have had three different 7710s and all of them have had issues, but all three were unable to switch to an Aero theme... is it just super rotten luck on my part or do these laptops not support visual themes in Win 7?

I can choose an Aero theme and the desktop pics show up, but none of the visual effects show (translucent menus, etc) due to an incompatible program preventing themes from working... AMD External Event Client Module.

I just ordered a 7710 (with Thunderbolt 3, which is just available)

Concerning storage, I am most interested in speed.

I intend to install two M.2 PCIe solid state drives in Raid 0. Which make and model do you recommend?
Concerning the 2.5” PCIe/SATA drive, which make and model do you recommend?

Not sure what that had to do with my post.... but my recommendation is to not buy one at all. So far they have proven extremely unreliable.

Looks like an issue with AMDs graphics drivers? Don't know of someone with a 7710 an NVidia yet to be sure. Did you try asking on the Microsoft knowledge base? That is if it still exists...

In any case MicroShaft will be nixing Win7 security support in another 17 months or so, so enjoy it while it lasts....

I remember Aero being kind of a cool thing in Vista/Win7, didn't realize people still use it....

Windows 7 will get security updates until January 2020.
Though true they will not be officially supporting Skylake machines past July 2017.... the security patches will continue to appear. This is a tactic to get people to move to Windows 10 and also to reduce the need for manufacturers to provide drivers for the older operating systems.

And, all new processors from Intel will have to run the latest OS or OS version, except maybe for the Enterprise editions...

I think however this will have a net negative impact on Intel, as users will simply upgrade less than risk incompatibilities with critical software. ..

I have the Quadro M3000M, and I was able to turn on the Aero themes without an error...

Looks like there are isues with the AMD cards... I have had to completely disable graphic switching in the bios for the AMD card to work.

Or possibly a conflict between AMD and Intel P530 drivers...

This is likely the case, yes.
