32GB 1866Mhz RAM cards for M4600?

Hello guys,

Someone confirmed 1866MHz ram memory sticks work fine on M4600 which supposed to accept only CL9 1600MHz (or below) cards.

Is it possible to put four 8GB 1866MHz ram cards into M4600?

These cards are not CL9.. I think they're CL10.

or should I buy four 8GB 1600MHz CL10 cards instead?

Do NOT buy any corsair RAM for Dell Precision laptop, it is not guaranteed to work. At least for me, wasted money for 1866Mhz Corsair RAM.
Buy Kingston HyperX instead.

 

I second that! Got burnt when upgrading my M6800!

 

Third... Corsair in my M6700 was a disaster... Causing periodic lock-ups and took me forever to figure out what was causing the problem.

I see why Corsair discontinued their 1866MHz DDR3 laptop ram cards..

Have you guys tried 1866MHz or 2133MHz DDR3 cards from Kingston on M4600?

They have all three versions: 1600mhz, 1866mhz, 2133mhz.

32GB 1866MHz or 2133MHz would be phenomenal but I wonder if M4600 can take that much...

 

My M6800 are running the Kingston HyperX 2133MHz 32GB. Works like a charm!

Yeah, M4800 and M6800 were built to accept faster RAM cards...
Someone confirmed 1866MHz works on M4600 but 2133MHz is not sure yet.
Once you get 32GB 2133Mhz RAM, your CPU get 10% performance boost.

 

If I remember my stuff correctly, at some point, Corsair screwed up something with their JDEC/XMP tables for some of their RAM and that was why it wasn't playing nice with Precisions. I am recalling this from way back when, so I could be wrong.

Still, the corsair RAM problems were limited to very specific SODIMMs (frequency and capacity), but those would not work at all in Precisions. My 1600 MHz 8 GB SOIMMMs have been working fine, but overall, I'd still avoid the Corsair SODIMMs given that they put out more than one model that wasn't playing nice.

Kingston which was recommended is a good choice, GSkill RAM is also good and Crucial/Micron also makes good RAM.

 

Did you have to do anything special to get it to accept the 2133 modules? I have a M4800, but seeing as the biggest different is the screen size (size of the machine) it should work the same way. Ive been wanting to replace the 1600 modules with something faster. Probably wont go more than 16GB as I hardly, if ever, push that much. The most I usually ever use is 12GB when running VMs.
