I've spent a week chasing this down with dell sales and support. It's been a topic on this forum.

The final verdict is that all latitudes will run a single 30inch @ full resolution.

The precisions can run two 30inch monitors.

Display port plus is necessary, except the high-end M6400.

We ordered a test m2400 and e4200 and will post test results.

    Thanks,
    NW

The E6400 and E6500 should be able to do as the Precisions can, although I'm unsure about the Intel graphics being sufficient.

Remember, the E6400=M2400 with a lesser graphics card, and the E6500=M4400 with a lesser graphics card as well.

The limiting factor would be the actual graphics card, not the computer. I doubt the X4500 will handle that, but the other nVidia options might.

Why wouldn't integrated graphics be able to handle it? Obviously your not going to game at full resolution on crysis...but for workstation environments its more than capable.

The integrated intel won't handle two. From what i remember, the support staff told me that it will work docked to 1 monitor vi eport plus. The desktop version of the integrated chipset already states abililty to handle 2560x1600 on intels website. I couldn't get the resolution # from the mobile page, so i called dell support. They said yes to 1 2560x1600. I'm guiessing it's not doing any high end graphics. Though it uses 380+MB of your RAM. So it's not that weak.
    Intel GM54MHD

If you want a real light weight workstation go for the precision m2400. That will power 2x2560x1600. One through the vga out on the laptop and one through the external display port plus.

All this sounded confusing to us too, so we just ordered one of each line and will do the configuration in real world on couple 3007wfps.

I didn't think that VGA could do that resolution at all...?

It will have to be DVI + DPort. VGA will not work on 2560x1600
