How often do these come out for the Dell Precision? Is this something that you only get either through a small business account, ebay, or by begging on these forums?

Are they stackable with other coupons? Say, $350 off coupons?

Hmm.. I run a little side business with my wife. I wonder if two part timers is enough to open a small business account? :)

The M6400 is starting sound really good, but I had talked myself down to something like a Sager (much cheaper) right up until I looked at a Macbook Pro and realized that I really want a LED screen :D So I'm thinking I'll scrounge around until I can find a 30% coupon then get the silver M6400. I won't feel toooo guilty about it then.

Rarely, but more importantly, randomly. Sometimes pops up on eBay, lots of them, sometimes you get nothing.

That's up to Dell, but as most luck has it, no.

No such thing as "opening" one, just tell them you're a small business when you call and you're a g'd*mn bidness. They dont ask questions besides employee # and company name (you can make it up if you wish).

Precisions -do- have LED screens, usually brighter and more vivid than the new MBP's screen (mine is anyway). The M6400 screen's will destroy those, too, and even more than destroy if you buy the RGBLED edge-to-edge glass screen.

You are so right. Well I 'only' have the normal - non edge-to-edge - display but the RGB LED backlight simply doesn't give other panels any chance to be better. :)

so how did you decide on a precision over like a latitude/thinkpad etc?

i am looking to replace my consumer based computers..with business models.

got me an optiplex 360 to replace an inspiron desktop. now i need something for my inspiron laptop.

was looking for a replacement for my inspiron 8600.

i was only considering business class machines due to my constant traveling and somewhat rough treatment of machines (almost every part of my 8600 had to be changed over its 3 year warranty, even its magnesium inner frame broke!)

latitudes were out of the question because of the weak graphics card. its my main machine so i like to enjoy the occasional game ;)

i was considering these three models

    i would recommend

    1) Precision M4400
    2) HP elitebook 8530w
    3) Lenovo Thinkpad W500

but the M4400 was just soooooo cheap in malaysia.....so i bought it while i was working in kuala lumpur over summer! Price was definitely the main factor, cos the three notebooks above are pretty similar with just a few small pros/cons each...

afhstingray, I would agree on those, and I'm currently typing this on an old Inspiron 8600 :) The case has cracked in a couple of places, and I get some blue screens sometimes when I try to hibernate, but it's been a pretty darn good laptop over the years. I've done a lot of research in the last month on notebooks. I think my notebook search has gone something like this:

    1. HP 8570w with Dreamcolor or W700 with 400nit and digitizer.. Perfect either way!
    2. *guilt* No, wait, I shouldn't spend that much on my laptop right now (new baby), let's back it down
    3. Sagers look solid, NP5793,96,97?
    4. Hey, that 15.4" Sager looks awsome for the price. I suppose I could live with 15.4" instead of 17"
    5. Go to Best Buy to look at notebook resolutions -- OMG at the Macbook Pro... I... must... have... an LED display <-- spoken in Captain Kirk's voice
(as a side note, my wife *owns* a year old Macbook Pro... how did I not notice this screen?)
    6. Hey, M4400 has an LED display, it's in the "backed down" price range, and my Dell has been solid! :)
    7. Aww... no 1680 x 1050 in the M4400 LED lineup :(
    8. M6400 is nice, and has the LED in 1920 x 1200, but that's back up in the 8730w and W700 price range... ehh...
    9. Coupons? They make coupons that apply to the Precision lineup? Really..?

And that's where I stand right now :)
