Hi everyone! I bought a new Dell Latitude D520 (C2D 1.66, integrated intel graphics, WinXP) two weeks ago, and I'm running into some problems with it:

    1) I usually leave it working (lid closed) while I'm at work, downloading (I have wireless ADSL at home, with a linksys WAG200 router)... So last night I come home, open the lid, and the screen is black (while the laptop is 'working')! Now, I've previously turned off all the power management features (hibernation also not enabled), except for the hard disk's DPIM in BIOS (ver. A06). I check the power supply, it's plugged in... The Bluetooth and WiFi lights are on... So I press Fn-F2, and only the BT light goes off, and without the usual sound (heard through the speaker) when you turn BT&WiFi on/off... So I reset the computer, and it comes back on again without any problems... I leave it working during the night, and this morning I get the same problem! Any ideas?

    2) When I'm working (typing) at the laptop, a buzzing noise suddenly starts, which seems to be coming from the display (I also use a D530 at work, and that's never happened)! What's strange is that the intensity of the noise changes (or stops) if I move the angle of the display... When I close the lid, no more noise... Note: I'm sure it's not the famous 'whine noise' generated by the CPU.

    3) From time to time (both when I'm working and when the lid is closed), a single beep is heard coming from the laptop (not the speakers). It's softer and a bit different then the beeps you hear when turning on a desktop computer... Nothing else happens except that... I turned off the 'Beep' in Device Manager -> Non-Plug and Play devices, and that didn't help...

So sorry for the long post everyone, and thanks in advance!

    1. Have a look in Computer Management > Event Viewer > System to see if any events are reported. If the software end is fine then suspicion must fall on the hardware / BIOS.

    2. The buzzing noise may the inverter not fixed properly. This provides the high voltage for the CCFL backlight and is probably somewhere in the bottom of the display (look in the service manual).

    3. Desktops used to be able to give beep codes when the BIOS detects problems. Maybe notebooks also have this feature. Some hard disks also make noises and maybe having the display closed changes the noise to make it sound like a beep.
