    Hi.

    I have a 2007 Dell Vostro 1500 with a wxga (1280x800) screen.

I'm looking to change the screen and I'm wondering can I put in a higher resolution screen? Say a wxga+ (1440x900)?

All the auctions off eBay say this is NOT possible and that I have to stick to my original screen resolution otherwise the replacement screen won't work.

    Most auctions state

' The resolution of this screen is 1280 x 800. Please check your screen is this resolution or it will not work.'

Is this definitely the case? Finding information the the web to confirm this is difficult, I can't find anything.

My vostro uses the ccfl type screen and 30 pin connector.

You can use up to a WUXGA with no modification to the rest of the laptop. Since the 1500 didn't originally offer WUXGA, you'll have to get something from a D820/D830/1520/M1530 or some other Dell laptop of comparable age that did offer WUXGA, etc. You should definitely be sure to get a panel that did come from a same-gen Dell laptop: some random WUXGA panel may not necessarily work.

    Hi.

That is good to know. I wouldn't want WUXGA on a 15.4 inch laptop. I was thinking something a bit more pedestrian like WXGA+.

I think current tablets really spoil us with there super duper resolutions. When I come back to my laptop I go 'meh'.

Strange how ebay sellers state that panels that are different than your current resolution will not work.

What is 1680x1050 like on a 15.4 inch screen?? or should I just stick with a small increase of 1440x900?

    Cheers.

IMO 1440x900 isn't worth it, barely increase in vertical pixels, WSXGA+ at least if you are already out to replace the panel. I don't think the M1530 panel will work, it's a slimmer panel, may not line up with LCD brackets.

    Hi.

I have a good deal on a 1525 LG screen. I take it 1525 screens will be fine in the Vostro 1500??

Its the same resolution, but I may just go for it as WSXGA+ are difficult to get in the UK used on ebay.

    Cheers.

    Hello again.

    I have seen this screen:

DELL PART NUMBER XK309 15.4 WSXGA+ LCD LAPTOP SCREEN | eBay

It looks perfect, but a little pricey. Its WSXGA+ though!!

But will it definitely be able to replace me WXGA and boot up fine?? Will the laptop automatically recognise the new screen??

    Cheers.

I got this reply from the seller

    'Hello,

Sorry we do not recommend upgrading your resolution, therefore we would not be able to help you.
It is not as simple as just changing the screen and often many problems occur with upgrading resolution.

    Kind Regards'

I don't understand what their problem is. I've got cash here waiting.

I like the look of those. Just worried about shipping damage and warranty support. Would be a pain if the screen had dead pixels and I had to ship it back.

I got this back from the seller when I pushed it further

    'Hello,

In most instances you will need to change the video cable.
Also in some instances you will need to replace the system board or at least make changes to the system board to change the dip switches

When people have tried to upgrade there resolutions before it has always resulted in the screen being returned to us, this is why we are apprehensive to sell screens which are to upgrade a resolution.'

Is this the case with my Vostro??

you might have to get another video cable to make it work. I upgraded my screen from 1336*768 to 1600*900 and found that I had to use the cable from the vostro 3750 to get it to work.
