what did your friend do? delete the administrator account or set a password for it?
http://ophcrack.sourceforge.net/ here you can download a live cd to crack the passwords. doesnt work 100% but worth a shot.
Also in safemode try just typing administrator as the user name

You cannot delete all accounts in Windows XP. One must remain (if you try to delete it Windows will delete you that an account needs to be the administrator).
So as far as I know it is not possible for your friend to delete the account.
If only one account existed with no password it should log you right into Windows.
If the account has a password, the screen will come up so that you can enter the password.
If you have more than one account, a screen will let you pick.

Again, as far as I know you cannot delete every account on the notebook. And there is also the hidden administrator account that should show up in safe mode (and you cannot delete that one either if I am correct).

So if nothing shows up and it doesn't let you log into Windows, then I have no idea what your friend did or how to fix it.
If the accounts show up and they are password protected, then you can use the link wave gave you to find the password.

I know on my machine I can press control alt delete twice on the welcome screen and type "administrator" for the username w/out the quotes and login fine, no password required. Hope this helps.
