    Here's a fun one. I updated to adobe 7. I'm using windows xp. When i'm an administrator, everything is fine. But when i log on as a limited user, the pdf files are not associated with adobe. So, i click on the file, go to adobe and check always associate this file with this program. Opens the file just fine, but doesn't associate it- it doesn't 'hold' the change. Also, another guy tried this;

    So I did some digging around and tried another solution. I go into "My Computer" logged in as an admin. I select "Tools" "Folder Options" "File Types" and there is no pdf file listed in registered file types. So I click "New" and add the file type as .PDF and associate it with Acrobat 7.0. The PDF entry appears at the top of the registered file types list. Heres where the big problem comes in. Once I select Adobe Acrobat 7.0 from the list pf applications to open it with and hit ok the icon for the pdf file type doesnt change to an adobe icon like it should, and on top of that the "APPLY" button at the button to apply and save changes is still greyed out so it wont even let you save the newly added file type. Once you close the window and come back...no pdf entry again. I've also tried looking in the preferences in adobe acrobat but it doesnt seem to change anything either.

    Please help! What is up with that?

    What I would do in your case is delete the PDF file association, and double click on the PDF to re-associate the file again.

    As John B says, reinstall does helps resolves the problem.

    EDIT:

    YYYYYYYYEEEEEEESSSSSS!!! fixed it. safe booted in dos mode. ran regedit.

    went to HKEY/CLASSES/ROOT

    EVERYONE was listed there. i checked 'read' and closed, shut down. on restart i get the correct icons with pdf for the limited user account. booya. now my girlfriend can use the limited account and be better protected from internet badness. sweet!
