fresh win7 install on SSD without drivers takes up 24gb

    disabled system restore
    disabled indexing

    is this normal?

    I've 40gb drive :) I'd love to slim win7 to 17gb, I've read it's possible.

I searched and it should be around 18gb, so my usage seems strange.

That is way not normal. A clean install should be between 8-12GB (ballpark). My entire installation (drivers, programs, and stuff) is only 25GB.

Pagefile should be defaulted to around 4GB. System restore at 15% of the volume space. My personal opinion is to change it to 2-5%, but keep it enabled. You never know when you might need it.

Drive indexing is maybe 200MB at its largest. Again, my opinion is to keep it active. It's way more useful and will not negatively impact your SSD in the "fear of too many writes" scenario.

Navigate to your C:\, start right clicking on folders > Properties... to see what's taking up so much space.

    Bulky folders are:
    Program files
    Program files x86
Users (the hidden appdata folder, but it should be very small due to clean install)
Program data (hidden, but should be very small due to clean install)
    Windows

Any other folders that are bulky?

Oh, there's also Hibernation, but that's 1-2GB and not super necessary with SSD's.

Do you have windows.old on your drive? My fresh install and some programs shows 91.5 GB free out of 111 GB. That is with some work programs, Office and some other programs I use daily on it.

Yes, I think so too, it's very likely that you have the windows.old folder on your HDD saved.

I disabled hibernate and swapfile, but do I also need to delete files?

I did nlite optimization, and win7 looks tad lighter now around 14Gb with drivers and little aps like ff and notepad++

Than it seems still after removing language files various drivers and unused services it's still allot for windows to use 13gb with drivers and updates... but still.

I had a feeling that every time I installed little program, it took 5x space required. After installing notepad++ for example I lost 1gb, how is that even possible? :)))
