As topic. my system is getting slower and slower to boot, now it's approaching 1min 30 secs. I haven't installed any programs lately and tried to disable every startup programs in msconfig, plus o&o defrag. Did some researches on this forum, but the majority of the answers are nothing constructive but show off, "oh my computer can boot up in xx:xx second". btw my OS is xp sp3. any opinion would be appreciated.

Would advise you to try out a free registry cleanup program and clean up and defrag the registry as well....I dont know of any free progams but I use Uniblue Registry Booster 2....you could probably try running norton windoctor and fix any missing links and active xcom entries, stuff like that..!!

I'm just hoping that this isn't the computer w/ 4GB of RAM as ur Sig suggest! If it is then something is definitely wrong...anyhow how much free HDD space do u have...is it at least 8GB? When it boots up and u log on does it move slow as well?...did it start this slow booting after SP3?

The only steps I know to take to speed up a computer is Limit the startup programs and services using msconfig as u have done already, scan for viruses, defrag as u have done and repairing registry using Registry Booster as angad suggested. After that if the system is moving slow I will either re-install the OS or Upgrade some Hardware.

When was the last time you reinstalled the OS? Has this happened over time or has it been a fairly recent and quick drop in boot up time? Any other symptoms or is boot up the only thing affected?

I had this rig for 2 months, SP3 installed since day 1. I have 43.7GB left on my HDD. definitely gonna try Registry Booster.

You've used msconfig to stop unnecessary start up programs, but what about services running in the background, Nirvana?

    This may help with those.

    Freebies to cleanup and defrag.

Edit: Guess I forgot the obvious, you should, if you haven't already, scan for malware.

Don't over tweak. This will always result in unexpected results.

Thanks for all the useful responses guys!
Anyway I don't think it could be any malware or virus, because my rig running strong after everything loaded, it just infinite boot time annoys me.

Changed anything to your network lately? A lot of times slow boot-ups can be network related, for example, having trouble getting an IP from DHCP server/router. Check your network settings.

Check your Event Viewer to see if there are any errors or failed service startup. This is where I'd start looking for problems.
