Arrghhh!!!!!!! Why do people do that?!?!?!?

When you click the icon, does it highlight or does nothing happen at all?

Does this happen in safe mode?

    Is there harddrive activity?

    Ughhh.........

Try safe mode. Also see if you can startup programs from Task Manager.

Restoring your installation is going to be tricky, considering there are no backups. You should think about just reinstalling windows. You don't need to wipe the partition though.

When you boot the setup CD, pick Custom install and choose your existing partition, without formatting it.
