what i mean is that ever since i bought my laptop (hp core2duo 1.5 2gig ram 160g5400rpm sata) which is much more powerfull than my previous one (acer sempron 1.8 2gig ram 80g5400rpm) it came with vista home premium (the older acer one had vista basic) and the boot time is at least twice maybe 3 times longer than the acer was, and no matter what i do i cant make it boot as fast.

some people mentioned that i should disable "aero" and "treansparency" and put it into "basic mode"
and i did all those things and it didnt really do squat (barely any difference)

and the older acer didnt have any tweaks or anything like that (just some useless programs uninstalled that came with it which is also what i did with the new one)

is the only option left: to buy vista basic and install that?

    1) Reinstall the OS, don't install all the crapware.

You should try vista business. It's much snappier than home premium.

what you need to do is defrag the harddrive and boot files...theres instructions on how to do it in the tweak guide on the top of the list in the windows forum. don't use the vista defragger as it takes forever

You can’t just compare them like that if either one of them has a factory installed OS (preinstalled apps / bloatware can make a HUGE difference)

I think you had asked this question multiple times before. if you want more features they will take a toll on the system resources. It's common with any OS.

It depends company to company what software they install and how they manage their images. I made images for a company for a few years. I would take the time to make them as near perfect and as fast as i could, while other guys would do a half ass job on them and not make them as fast.

As for it being oem, you can still get the disks...dell gives you the oem vista dvd's. Other companies you just have to complain to them for it.

Check your startup list and make sure you have only essential items. You can use a program like Spybots to do this (Switch it to advanced mode then Tools>Startup Programs). Also, what do you use for firewall/antivirus/anti spyware? Some programs like AVG antivirus and Norton take up a lot of system resources.

yes i have asked this question before..... and tried all the advice given to no avail. so i asked again (if you read the first post of this thread youll see that i mentioned this)

and i DONT want the extras features (again - if you actually read my post then youd see that i specifically want home premium to be like vista basic)

my question was very specific: is my only option to install vista basic to get the fast boot time of vista basic

You can do a clean install with windows upgrade dvd too. You can get it for $7 from Microsoft.
