    hey,

I just read this article online stating how data theft, scams, and viruses were on the rise. Just wondering what you guys use to keep your pc safe, Do's and Don'ts when online, and practicing safe surfing.

I use the latest edition of Zonealarm with pretty high settings, ad-aware scans ever couple days, and I update microsoft weekly.
    Is that enough?

Router firewall + Microsoft Windows firewall + McAfee Virusscan OEM. Cheap (apart from the router) and secure. The McAfee only costs like £8.
I don't use Norton as it slows my PC down way too much (every nanosecond matters to me).

I have a router with hardware firewall, zone alarm, and AVG virus scanner. I also clean out my cookies and cache every couple of days using Privacy Eraser Pro.

Of course there are the usuals:
*only check your email online (i.e. gmail, yahoo mail) and not by software (such as outlook).
*Don't open up any attachments from people you don't recognize.
*Be careful of links that are in your email. A common one that i get is for paypal requiring me to login, yet if you check the address, it sometimes is just a copy of paypal.

Router (just being there, nothing fancy) + avast + occasional running of adaware/spybot to clean out cookies = nothing bad ever on my computer unless i committed a retarded mistake.

Router + occasional antivirus/spyware scans + extensive elimination work in the rare occasions something does get through. Enough for me.

Norton Internet Security (need 1GB RAM to be comfortable) with FW, Microsoft Antispyware, Windows Updates. I used Sygate Personal firewall before but NIS2005 also comes with FW so I am not using it anymore. If your Antivirus solution does not come with FW, you should get one, many free versions (like Sygate) do OK.
Microsoft Antispyware (beta) is the only one that didn't slow down my PC...quite good by now and free.

you should really only be running 1 firewall. if you got mcafee then you dont need the windows firewall.

router/modem (depending where i am) + sygate personal firewall + Mcafee VS + ad-aware, spybot, and spyware blaster

i use zone Alarm professional. As well as PcOnPoint (highly reccomended) spybot S&D and Ad-Aware Se personal. i also use spyware doctor, but only because im paranoid. Ive found that running that (which you have to pay for) will pickup items in the tens after running all of the programs that i listed before it.
