My fujitsu 6210 will come with Win XP home. Should I use upgrade disc to upgrade to Win XP Pro or is it better to reinstall with Win XP install disc? If I choose reinstall, is it too much hassle to reinstall all other drivers and applications which comes with notebook?

    Thanks

    Roger

It is always better in the long run to do a clean/full install. You may save some time in the beginning by upgrading, but in the long run a clean install will help prevent long hours of headache later on. Of course to do a full install you will have to pay the price for full version of XP pro, or remove an install from another pc so it can be activated again. If your notebook came with the windows XP home disc, you could do a clean/full upgrade by just by just buying the XP upgrade disc and putting in the XP home disc when it asks for proof of upgradability.

Generally I would say to do a clean new install and hassle with all the driver re-installs.

However, if already have the upgrade disc, I would go ahead and use it rather than purchase a full intall. A friend upgraded this way on a new Averatec and has no complaints at all.

always do a new install. Furthermore if you install and deinstall programs often you'll find a fresh install will restore some performance or conflicts created from some programs and utilities. I would say at least once a year you need to do a fresh install all over again.

To simplify this process you can create a second partition of a few gig and when you have your new perfect install with all the drivers and the utilities you know you will always use you can ghost the image to the second partition. That way you can backup up you data and restore the ghost image and in less than 1 hour have the system restored.

    Thanks.

But how to do a ghost image of another partition? Is it just a copy of the whole drive to another drive?
