I am getting a notebook that has vista 32bit already installed but would like the extra comfort of knowing I can see all 4 GBs of RAM, when I install the extra RAM. My question is, is there a way to just kind of upgrade to 64bit vista or do I have to do a full reinstall of the OS? I hear finding the drivers for everything is a nightmare and really didn't want to go into all that. Thanks in advance. Oh, just in case anyone needs to know the new notebook is the Gateway P-171S FX.

You can't do an in-place upgrade when moving from 32-bit to 64-bit; a clean install is required.

That's what I was afraid of, was trying to make this as easy as possible. Thanks for the post.

It is never advisable to do an upgrade anyways even if it is possible. A clean install is always better.
