I am trying to move songs I purchased from iTunes to a flashdrive (thumb drive) so I can play them on a laptop. Windows media player can't open .mP4 format. So which of the free media players, foobar, mediamonkey or winamp is able to best play the .mP4 format on the flashdrive?

You need codecs to understand different formats. Download the K-Lite Mega Codec Pack or VLC player. This should be able to play every video format you come across

If it's from the iTunes store, you need to use iTunes to play the files, only it can read the DRM'd files. And, you will need to log onto your iTunes account.

Thanks, downloaded iTunes on the laptop. Now plays the files on the flashdrive. This seemed the most logical thing to do.

Alternatively you can use Quicktime for files like that. I personally hate iTunes.

Or maybe QuickTime Alternative. I hate the pompous viral like attitude of anything Apple.

Well I am still trying to get songs downloaded from iTunes to play on my laptop. Here is the status:
    1) I can access and play all the songs in the iTunes on my PC with my laptop on the local network here at home.
    2) I can play the songs downloaded from iTunes to the PC on the laptop as long as I burn them to a CD and play the CD on the laptop.
    3) I can't (easily) play them however if I copy them to a thumb drive. To do this I have to select iTunes as the "player" for each song individually. This is not easily done and is a major pain as you can't just play a group of songs. iTunes preferences seems to indicate you can select that option for all songs of a given format but it doesn't do it, only doing it for one song at a time.
I would like to be able to put a lot of songs on the thumb drive, have them "portable", and play them on the laptop when I am remote from the local PC. Any help/suggestions?
