My second question is: I've hooked up a second monitor to my laptop I checked the settings and it works like this, if I move my mouse to the right and keep going, my mouse appears on the second screen. How can I make it so that the start menu and everything goes from the first to the second screen that way I can close my laptop, cause if I close my laptop screen it disables the second screen also/

Do you mean extend the taskbar to the 2nd monitor? Use ultramon for that or make the 2nd monitor the primary monitor so the start bar is on the 2nd monitor. And you probably have the laptop to "sleep" when lid is closed...change that function in control panel.

Go to display settings, by right clicking desktop. Click "2" the second monitor and check "This is my main monitor."

I can't click primary monitor it doesn't give me the option to, the first monitor has it checked and I can't uncheck it.

Go to your other monitor and check the box to "uncheck" the box on your first monitor.

BTW.. this doesn't solve your problem. You'll need special software to extend your taskbar.

That doesn't do anything if O go into the display settings on the second monitor I still can't uncheck the first monitor. I'm even using ultramon and it won't let me make second display primary.

Okay well I have ultramon, what setting do I go to so that the start menu and all my desktop icons are on the second monitor. I have it right now so that there is a start menu except there isn't a start it's just the task bar, and no desktop icons.

If you are in vista, right click the desktop. click personalize. In the left hand column, click windows mobility center. click connect display button. click show desktop on external display only. click OK

to be able to close the lid --
right click the battery icon in the lower right hand corner of your desktop>more power options> change plan settings>change advanced power settings>power buttons and lid>do nothing

...you can't. It just extends the task bar over there...

You can unlock your taskbar and drag the start bar to the second monitor...

If you are planning on closing the laptop lid anyway, why not choose display on the external monitor only? That way everything that you normally see on your laptop screen will be on the external monitor and if you change the power options, you can safely close the lid.

I'm not on Vista but I might switch to it if it allows me to do all my things on my second display. Does this work with Windows 7 also?

Have you even used ultramon before?
Ultramon creates another taskbar on the other monitor and only display processes on the taskbar which are on that specific screen.

I was referring to the part about ultramon. It doesn't extend the taskbar, but creates a new one.

Lol...however you want to call it. Extend or new is the same thing.
