can anyone explain why my laptop will turn on after being put into hibernate mode? i put it into hibernate and it shuts down, all lights turn off, and fan turns off. and when i come back to it the hdd light is flashing like its in sleep mode. it happened yesterday and today. i put it into hibernate before i went to work then about 8 or 9 hours later i come home from work and its on. i thought hibernate totally turned off the computer and could only be brought back on by pushing the power button? i know in sleep mode things like wireless being turned on can wake it up but my wireless card is turned off and the only thing running when i put it into hibernate is mcaffee. i turn of sidebar, ff, clean access and anything else in the system tray and any windows. is there something i am doing that is causing it to turn itself on from hibernate?

Which Windows and what computer are you using? Is the computer plugged in to the mains power when this happens? Are you plugged into a network?

Are there any options in the BIOS which would allow the computer to wake from hibernation. I believe that some computers have the facility to be worken up through the network connection so that system administrators can run updates outside working hours.

could it be that 'larger than 1GB RAM - hibernating problem' thingy?

i dont think i have any software that would turn my computer on. and i never set anything to do anything automatically like any updates or whatever. but even if i did, when in hibernate isnt it suppose to completely power down so its not doing anything. on my desktop i have norton set to run friday nights when im at wor but if its turned off for some reason it doesnt turn itself on while im away. just today i tried hibernate again and when i got back from class it wasnt turned on but i got the blue screen of death and fatal errors when i tried to power it on.

on a side note: im playing with Ubuntu on my desktop and if all goes well, maybe the laptop will follow in its footsteps because this laptop with vista is a migraine so far.
