    trouble copying .dat file in vista..

    vista doesnt seem to like it when you try to paste a .dat file into a file folder. what protection do i need to turn off inorder for me to perform this tast?

    I don't have any trouble. What version of Vista do you have, and what tweaks have you done to the OS? What folder is causing the trouble? What error message do you get?

    is the name of file anything like crack.dat ??

    it's a license file...

    vista basically refuses to copy the file over, it gets stuck with 'calculating' and the CPU is running on full.

    change the extension of the file and try again

    Are you trying to copy a license from a server to your local disk? If that's the case, you probably don't have permissions to copy the license. You will have to connect to the server every time you wish to run the application.

    vista wont let me change the extension either. maybe i'll just need to switch back to XP.
